Williamson Design Associates was hired by Creative Contractors, in partnership with DLR Group, for the Pinellas County courts design-build renovations and addition. The project unifies court operations, from three other locations, to the centralized Justice Center campus and provides family court services with a separate identity within the judicial complex.
The trauma informed public workspace prioritizes comfort and ease of access for staff and visitors. The new modern four-story annex houses courtrooms and includes sweeping views from the mostly-glass façade. A glass connector, which was designed to include a large interactive art installation, serves to tie the new and existing buildings together. Additionally, an egress stair tower was created and renovations occurred to the existing clerk and court administration spaces further enhancing their ability to serve the public. An open courtyard was designed to lead visitors into the new glass building entry.
The project was LEED Certified and in 2025 was awarded IIDA’s, Florida Central Chapter’s, Interior Design Excellence Award for the Public Sector.
